4 Qualities That Carried Her Through 50 Miles (And Can Get You Through Anything)

Hope you’re doing great. Grit, determination, preparation and support. Those were the qualities I saw the most this past Saturday when my daughter in law ran an Ultra-Marathon (50 miles) and those seem to be qualities that can help us through almost anything. Let’s break it down.

Grit:

How often have you come face to face with your greatest obstacle (often our own mind). The challenge seemed so overwhelming, consuming and impossible. Then, you made the decision that you’re simply going to get through it…and that’s exactly what you did. When my DIL was really struggling at the final stop we could fuel her up and give her what she needed (at mile 35), she said when she finished that the last 15 miles took every ounce of grit she could possibly give.

Determination:

For me this is all about a decision and then the follow through it requires. She only decided to do this in June and that decision and determination carried her through the finish line. How often are we determined to do something but then it gets hard and we quit. We can only feel that level of success when we follow through after that decision is made.

Preparation:

Preparing for something ensures we have what we need when we need it. Of course there will be curveballs requiring things we didn’t count on so the better prepared we are, the better. For my DIL, besides the 6 months of intense training, this meant lists for her “crew”, packages of supplies, food and water at every stop, clothes, headlamps for nighttime running, first aid kits and more. (I think I was carbo-loading to prepare too J).

Support:

While the main crew was at all 4 of aid stations, friends showed up along the way. We got up at 3am, left the house to get her to the starting point at 5am and we didn’t leave until after 9pm. Who do you have in your life that’s there for you? It was a great reminder that when times get tough, we need support to help us get through. Her coach ran the last 15 miles with her and to me that symbolized our own internal coaching we can give ourselves when we feel like giving up. When we coach ourselves through it, and have the grit, determination and preparation as well, it’s amazing what we can do.

While I have ZERO drive or intention to run an ultra marathon, I learned so much by being a part of the experience.

Are you a coach, healer or practitioner? If so, these are some qualities your clients may be looking to you for. If they’re struggling with an unhealed betrayal, while they may be striving for these things, all of that unfinished business combined with a dysregulated nervous system may be in the way. On Thursday, December 11th at 11amPST I’m hosting my final live masterclass for the year. If you want to learn more about how an unhealed betrayal is showing up for your clients (and what to do about it) join me! Replays are sent to all those who register.
