Hi there, I’m Dr. Debi. I believe that betrayal is one of the most painful of the human experiences. How do I know? I’ve been there.
It was my own betrayals - first from my family and then from my husband, that shattered my heart, trust and life as I’d known it. I felt so hurt, so sad, so angry, so confused.
It didn’t make any sense. These were the people I loved and trusted...how could they hurt me like that? If I couldn’t count on, or feel safe with the people I trusted the most...who could I trust?
Those questions drove me right to a PhD program in Transpersonal Psychology.
While I was there, I studied how we experience betrayal - what holds us back, what helps us heal,
and what happens to us when the people closest to us lie, cheat and deceive.
Healing from betrayal is very different than healing from other life crises like the death of a loved one, disease, or natural disaster.
With any crisis we grieve, we mourn and we’re sad, but because betrayal feels intentional, we take it so personally. We need to heal from feelings of rejection, abandonment, belonging, confidence, worthiness, trust in addition to grieving what we’ve lost.
So that type of healing needed its own name which is now called Post Betrayal Transformation® (PBT®).
While we can stay stuck for years, decades, a lifetime (and so many of us do just that), if we’re going to heal, we’re going to go through 5 proven and predictable Stages (The 5 Stages from Betrayal to Breakthrough).
What’s even more exciting is, we also discovered what happens (physically, mentally, and emotionally) at every stage and what it takes to move from one stage to the next!
There’s a collection of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms so common to betrayal, it’s known as Post Betrayal Syndrome® (PBS®).

How long does certification take?
It typically takes a few weeks to a few months. You have up to one year to complete your certification. If we see you’ve been quiet for a while, we’ll give you a gentle nudge to get you back on track.
We encourage candidates to complete the coursework within a year so the content stays fresh. However, we understand that life happens. If you hit a challenge that delays you, let us know so we can support you.
What’s the difference between a PBT® Coach and PBT® Practitioner?
Great question! A Certified PBT® Coach has a coaching background or is a wellness/health/mindset/personal development healer of some kind. A Certified PBT® Practitioner is a Therapist, Counselor, Psychologist, Psychiatrist or Doctor. The training is the same for both and the opportunities are the same as well. The difference is in the fees after certification (if working within The PBT® Institute), your logo and certificate.
Is there a quiz/test/case study?
Yes. There’s a quiz and a case study conversation with Dr. Debi so you can discuss the clients most likely to come your way. There’s also group calls for questions and business building (with our Business Accelerator upgrade), monthly calls (if working within The PBT® Institute). Most importantly, we’re here to support you. We want you to succeed and we want to ensure that you infuse your unique skills and talents into your coaching.

When I first began learning about Post Betrayal transformation, I was intrigued at how this may have been affecting my health coaching clients who seemed stuck and unable to move forward. After understanding and personally working through the PBT’s Betrayal to Breakthrough process, I knew that this was the missing piece and began studying to become a Certified PBT Coach. Working step by step through this process not only revealed such incredible insight and awareness into my own personal journey and continual evolution, but has been an incredible asset for my coaching clients. My journey towards certification began with entering the Betrayal to Breakthrough Home Study program. I wanted to answer my questions about the consequences of my own betrayal and wanted to understand why things like betrayal happen and how to help myself.
During the certification process I not only grew to understand the reasons for my experience and got tools to help myself, but also made my lifestyle healthier and started to take risks again. Afterwards I took the opportunity to take the certification program where I, with a help of emotional distance, started to see my own process even more clearly. This certification for me represents my own personal win and a step towards helping others the way I was helped. I'm grateful for that.
I found Dr Silber’s work after a year of simply surviving in shock. I was at my lowest point, frustrated, because I am a coach/mentor, and helping people recover from trauma is what I do for a living. So why couldn’t I do this by myself? Through Dr Silber’s work, I discovered that Betrayal Trauma is very different from any other kind of trauma, and you really do need a special kind of help to come out stronger on the other side. I didn’t just want to come out stronger, though, I wanted to transform - so I worked through the course, and then chose to become a Certified Post-Betrayal Transformation Coach because it is the perfect set of skills to be even more effective in helping clients. I received personal support from Dr Debi and her team throughout the certification process.
